Yoga Therapy as an Integrative Practice

Yoga therapy is rooted in a much broader framework than physical movement alone. While specific practices can support the body, their deeper value comes from how they are applied and understood within the context of the whole person.

It is possible to approach a posture or technique as a way to address a symptom. That can be helpful, but it often stays at the surface. A more integrative approach looks at what is happening underneath, including patterns in the nervous system, behaviour, and perception that contribute to ongoing discomfort or imbalance.

From this perspective, the work is less about correcting and more about understanding. It creates space to work with what is present rather than simply trying to resolve it. Over time, this can shift not only how symptoms are experienced, but how someone relates to them.

This is where yoga therapy becomes something more than a set of tools. It becomes a way of engaging with the body and experience as a whole.

Hi, I’m Shyla.

I am a certified yoga therapist, instructor, facilitator and (maybe more importantly), a highly sensitive person. My therapeutic journey has taken me beyond study of the healing power of yoga, to studying trauma and its power to take-hold of our behaviours. I specialize in guiding, facilitating, and creating safe environments for people to have transformative experiences that provide healing of physical, mental and emotional disorders.
